Mr. Smith graduated from the University of Michigan in 1975 with a B.A. in Urban Studies and a minor in Political Science, and from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 1985 with a Juris Doctorate, magna cum laude. Mr. Smith was the Editor-in-Chief of the Thomas M. Cooley Law Review and received the Distinguished Student Award. Mr. Smith has been in private practice for the past 22 years.
